About

Old Ignatians Rugby Football Club

Old Ignatians welcomes all rugby players from across Sydney, regional New South Wales, all states of Australia and all countries of the world. The Club currently fields three open mens teams, plus one colts team, in the NSW Suburban Rugby Competition, Third Division.

The Foundations

The club was formed in 1969 by a group of former students from St Ignatius’ College, Riverview and consisted of just one team. Old Ignatians has a long history of success, if measured by the repeated representation of multiple grades, across successive years in Premiership finals and grand finals.

Old Ignatians Capabilities

OIRFC has a proven record of performance, both on the field and in effective administration. The club has an astute, strong and active supporter group built over the club’s 48-year history.

Founded by the ties of an old boy network, with naming links to St Ignatius’ College, Riverview, and a substantial representation of alumni from St Joseph’s College, Hunters Hill; Old Ignatians RFC can be counted on, to have a strong and loyal following.

Prospects are strong for 2017 after a stellar finish to the 2016 season that saw two out of four teams progress through to the finals. Off the field, there was a deliberate push to reconnect with former players and members and this has seen a surge in support for the club.

Old Ignatians Network

Arguably Old Ignatians RFC’s greatest asset is its network of current and former members. The majority of players attended either St Ignatius’ College or St Joseph’s College, which in turn gives Old Ignatians RFC access to alumni networks from both schools that number in the tens of thousands.

Within this broad network is a more concentrated and intimately involved group called the Mates for Life Club. The MFL is a club of more than 250 members whom have won at least one premiership whilst playing for Old Ignatians RFC. The MFL is mostly made up of business professionals and entrepreneurs who continue to fundraise on behalf of Old Ignatians RFC and several other charities.

Lastly, Old Ignatians RFC is also affiliated with both the Old Ignatians Cricket and Football clubs, providing even greater networking reach through both clubs.
